"Princess" is a very positive song affirming the importance of women being respected and free to use their God-given gifts without arbitrary restraint. "She" is a pretty raw poem exploring the ways in which my own life has been affected by an addictive relationship with a medium based on the degradation and exploitation of women. From an artistic point of view, having these tracks follow one another directly created a sense of contrast that was on the one hand pretty powerful, but on the other felt perhaps a bit too jarring.

With the idea of smoothing out that transition in mind, James Ross and I worked together to write track three, Perspective, a short, subtle, but pretty significant song that not only makes the musical and lyrical shift between these two pieces less abrupt, but signals a dramatic change in tone for the album as a whole, segueing from the high-spirited optimism of the first two tracks to the angst and frustration that comes to dominate the middle portion of the record.
